How to use Word to PDF: a step-by-step guide
Turn Word documents into clean PDFs that open anywhere.
Open the free tool, follow the steps and download your result. No sign-up required.
Before you start
- One Word document in .doc, .docx, .odt or .rtf format.
- The final version of the document, with tracked changes and comments resolved if needed.
- Any required fonts installed on the server or embedded in the source document.
Step by step
- Upload a Word document (.doc, .docx, .odt or .rtf).
- Press Start to convert it.
- Download the PDF and check the layout.
Common mistakes
- Expecting a missing font to look identical; the server may substitute it.
- Converting a document with hidden comments and assuming they will be included.
After you download
Download the PDF and compare headers, page breaks, tables and footnotes with the original. Keep the Word file if you may need to edit it later.
Questions and answers
Will my fonts look the same?
Fonts embedded in the document are used. If a font is missing on the server it is substituted, so install corporate fonts on the worker or embed them in the source file.
Are tracked changes and comments included?
The document is converted as it currently looks; comments and tracked changes are not shown unless they were visible when the file was last saved.
Can I convert several documents at once?
One document per task on the free plan — merge the resulting PDFs afterwards if you need a single file.
